As part of its activities for World Diabetic Day to be observed on November 14, the Region Three Diabetic Management Committee hosted a clinic at the Wakenaam Cottage Hospital on Tuesday.
The clinic offered blood sugar and blood pressure testing, eye screening and the free distribution of spectacles.
Diabetic patients were issued with information on physical exercises they should undertake.
Several persons were hospitalized after their blood sugar was found to be at an unacceptable level. They were treated and later sent home. About eighty persons benefitted from the exercise.
The team that visited the island included two doctors; three medexes; a laboratory technician and a physiotherapist.
Accompanying them were the Chairperson of the Region Three Diabetic Management Committee, Jean Bhagmania; and Coordinator of the programme, Nurse Barry.
The trip to Wakenaam was facilitated by Managing Director Glenn Lall of Kaieteur News.
