Soldiers take 1st innings points from E/Prise
Twenty-one year-old National opening batsman Shemroy Barrington fell 32 short of the first century in the Demerara zone of the inaugural Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) 3-day first division cricket competition as he led GDF to 1st innings points against hosts Enterprise on Sunday.
The former Malteenoes right-hander who averages 16.60 from 5 First Class matches since making his debut this year, batted fluently in his first game for GDF before edging a catch to the Keeper with 3 overs left in the first day’s play as GDF reached 127-2 replying to the home team’s 108 all out.
Asked to bat on a slow track, Enterprise were never allowed to score freely and only first class player Zaheer Mohamed (17) and Peter Daniels (16) reached 15 as Essequibo medium pacer Delon Heyliger (4-19), leg-spinner Travis Blyden (2-11) and Paul Castello (2-7) did the damage for the soldiers.
Another former Malteenoes player, ex-national under-19 Keeper Delroy Jacobs returned to local cricket with an unbeaten 47 while Heyliger (13*) is with him. The second day is scheduled for Saturday while the game concludes on Sunday.
