The Berbice Zone of the inaugural GCB National First Division Three Day Cricket Competition continued with the start of five second round matches over the week-end.
Former Berbice Under-19 allrounder Raid Ali turned an outstanding allrounder performance that put Edinburgh in total command over Rose Hall Community Centre.
He firstly contributed 36 in Edinburgh’s first innings total of 258 and then came back with his offspinners to take 6 for 52 from 13.4 Overs to help Edinburgh to a 46 run lead even though Vedesh Singh scored 70 and Sasenarine Sukhdeo 62 for Rose Hall.
In Edinburgh’s second innings he slammed 113 which included 15 fours to spearhead them to 322 for 9 by the end of the second day’s play, an overall lead of 368 going into Saturday’s last day.
This year’s Guyana Under-19 allrounder Alex Amsterdam slammed an even 100 (8 fours and 4 sixes) for Scottsburg United in their first innings total of 249 all
out against their fellow Corriverton rival, Skeldon Community Centre in their match which was rescheduled to begin on Sunday.
Left arm spinner Nirshaw Khan took 7 for 88 from 26 Overs, the best bowling figures so far in the competition. Skeldon were 26 for 1 in reply by the end of the day.
Albion Community Centre without the services of the injured Sewnarine Chattergoon and Narsingh Deonarine, who is due to leave on Tuesday to join the West Indies squad for the trip to Australia, were on the ropes against their traditional rival Port Mourant who despite 65 from former CCC Inter-Territorial cricketer Ramnarine Chattergoon bowled them out for a paltry 147 in their first innings compliments of Berbice offspinning allrounder Rajiv Ivan (5 for 34 and 14 Overs) and former Guyana Under-19 offspinner Stephen Latcha (3 for 39).
With Guyana middle order batsman Homchand Pooran hitting 69 and Ivan 48, Port Mourant replied with 246, with Albion’s national spin twins left arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul and right arm legspinner Devendra Bishu picking up 5 for 83 from 21 Overs and 4 for 93 from24 Overs respectively.
Albion made 215 in their 2nd innings, leaving Port Mourant 117 to make in their 2nd innings for an outright win. They reached 56 for 2 at the close, needing just 61 on Saturday’s last day.
Police middle order batsman Jerry Heyliger slammed 94 to help his team to a decent 250 in their first innings against Young Warriors who however ended up with a 26 run lead after former Berbice batsman Maxie De Jonge scored 83 and Berbice opening batsman Richard Ramdeen 65.
By the end of the second day Police were 130 for 4 in their second innings with No. 4 batsman Albert Sinclair still there on 70 N.O.
Thanks to two maiden half centuries from Berbice Under-19 cricketer Raffel Estriado and one from former Berbice Under-19 cricketer Colin Duke and Keith Fraser 63, West Berbice were favoured for victory over Blairmont Community Centre who needed to score 192 more for an outright win with 6 wickets standing.
