Teenager Deo ‘on song’ for MACORP Golf title
Teenage golfer Joaan Deo continued her fairytale season when she won last Saturday’s MACORP sponsored Medal Play Golf Tournament that attracted 43 golfers at the Lusignan Course.
Deo playing off a 26 handicap recorded a gross 91 to end with a net 65 and proved once again to be a giant killer following her recent success at the Courts Guyana Inc. competition. The young University of Guyana medical student’s performance has set the stage for an intriguing battle in the Guyana Open championships scheduled in two weeks time.

David Harry who recorded a gross 81 to end with a net 66 playing off a 15 handicap secured second position.
There was a fierce fight for third place with three players Maurice Solomon, Jerome Khan and William Walker all recording net scores of 67 however, Solomon (21 handicap, gross 88 and net 67) won on a countback.
Brijlall Harry won the Nearest to the Pin prize with Rajiv Misir taking the Long Drive title while Francois Montour, Canadian High Commissioner to Guyana won the Long Putt prize. Avinash Persaud had the best gross score of 71.
Jorge Medina, Chief Executive Officer of MACORP who spearheaded a team of golfers from his company said that MACORP was extremely pleased to sponsor the tournament once again. He said the tournament was very competitive and offered to sponsor another competition in 2010.
President of the Lusignan Golf Club Mel Sankies said that MACORP’s input into sponsoring this year’s tournament has set a new bar because of the prizes and souvenirs presented to the players and caddies on Saturday. He thanked the company and expressed the hope that other companies will follow suit.
Several senior officials of the company were on hand to assist in the presentation of prizes.
