Nov 09, 2009 Letters
Dear Editor,
I wish to commend my good friend Leon Rockcliffe for his wonderful letter in the newspapers of 7th November, 2009, when he quoted Shakespeare and the Bible to support his warnings to civil society not to relapse into complacency in dealing with current unacceptable standards of happenings in our beloved country.
I am particularly moved to do so since I am so glad to see that Leon has now awaken to speak out of the ills of our society.
I say so, because he was one of the members of the Legal Practitioner’s Committee which denied me my right to have an attorney-at-law tried for acts of perjury and fraud.
This issue was already well vented in the media when I exposed the appalling excuse by the Committee. This is denial of Justice. Such non-action is the basis for all the atrocities in Guyana.
Ask ourselves, why are the Bar Association, Guyana Human Rights, Political Parties, Trade Unionists and other Civil Societies not saying anything about it? We know the reason why!
As expected, we are now hearing them on issues that now suit their clamour. Condemnation of the arsonists, attacks on innocent members of the public, and throwing of incendiary devices on Government and other private institutions are non-issues for them.
Let us love justice without double standards and hate iniquity, and we shall be a great nation.
