Guyana’s best known comedian, Habeeb Khan, was honoured Saturday at the first season of Mori J’von Comedy Jam which was launched at the National Cultural Centre.
The gala evening was hosted by Henry Rodney and the veteran comedian was bestowed with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to comedy and other forms of entertainment in Guyana and the Caribbean.
The event which was described as very successful was said to be a fantastic journey into comedy which was only the tip of the iceberg.
Three quarters of the actors who performed at Saturday evening’s show were new talents to the Mori J’von Comedy Jam.
They brought brilliance to the various humourist inventions that were amazing.
With direction from Russell Lancaster, the event is the brainchild of Ron Morrison and his wife Olive Gopaul-Morrison. The event brought together leading professional comedians, including Khan, Henry Rodney, Howard Lorrimer, Godfrey Naughton, Linden “Jumbie” Jones, Miranda Austin, Rajian Tiwari, Sherri Ann Dyal, Basil Bradshaw and Michael Ignatius.
It featured a combination of stage and TV shows and this event proved to be refreshing and sensational.
There was also a fund established by Scotia Bank for continued financial support to Habeeb Khan, who is currently suffering from bronchitis but is playing a major role in the rebirth of comedy on the local shores.
