Sixty-six students were honoured for successfully completing studies at the Kuru Kuru Co-operative College when the institution held its annual graduation ceremony at the Guyana Red Cross Society Building at Eve Leary Kingston.
The KKCC graduates along with Pastor Mark Constantine, Administrator of KKCC Yvette Philander and Dr. Richard Blair.
Twenty one of the students completed the Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate, while 45 completed various levels of the advance courses offered by the college.
The college attained a total of 98% passes overall at the CSEC level and achieved 100% passes in every CSEC subject offered at the college except for Mathematics which saw a pass rate of 78 percent. The advance courses offered are Small Business Management, Video Editing and Photography, and Leadership Skills.
The valedictorian was Ron D’Avillar, who attained three Grade Ones with two distinctions, one Grade two and two Grade Threes. In his speech D’Avillar stated that he hopes his fellow graduates will overcome all future obstacles and would contribute to the development of society. He reflected on his younger days and expressed his sorrowful feelings after attaining Christ Church Secondary at the Secondary Schools Entrance Examinations. He thanked all the teachers of the various subject areas who saw his capabilities and supported him.
Addressing the ceremony, Administrator of the College, Yvette Philander, using lyrics from the likes of Buju Banton, “it’s not an easy road” and Frank Sinatra “Regrets I had a few, but nevertheless, I did it my way”, said that the graduates with all their setbacks attained success their way.
Philander added that the college continues to achieve good results in Mathematics and English Language even as the country’s results in those subjects are poor. She also stated that at present, the Photography and Video Editing courses comprise of two photographers from the Guyana Chronicle and a GWTV 2 video editor.
Also addressing the ceremony was the guest speaker, Dr. Richard Blair, who stated that as a former student of the institute, he hopes that the graduates be inspired as he was in his time at the college. He added that the various disciplines offered at the college are very relevant in these modern times. He advised the graduates to continue with their studies for it will pay off in the future.
The entire graduation class thanked their teachers individually for their patience and support and for identifying their potential and working with them.
