Dear Editor,
I am rather confused by the editorial in (6th November, issue.
First, of all you implore the “terrorists” to exercise their democratic rights and seek salvation at the “ballot box” – well, anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of Guyana’s political system would know that the present electoral system and history of ethnic voting do not allow for a truly democratic outcome.
This salient fact is obviously a fundamental reason for the recourse to “terrorism” and mayhem in our country.
Secondly, you end your article by invoking Colin Powell, who was responsible for an outrageous act of “criminality” itself – illegally invading a sovereign nation, based on a pack of lies, and causing the ruin of a country and the deaths of possibly a million people.
As if that was not enough you send a chilling warning “cut it off and kill it” so similar in resonance to “Uncle” Powell himself – look where it got him and his country!
Guyana cannot afford more of this type of mendacity and barbarity and it’s your duty to use the power of the media in a more responsible manner.
