SSIGNAL studio set to launch ‘King of Drums’ movie

Veteran music producer/movie maker Bonny Alves, and veteran singer, Charmaine Blackman, are set to launch yet another locally produced movie.

On Sunday November 22 all roads will lead to the National Cultural Centre for the launch.

The movie, King of Drums, is about the use of the drum as a weapon in a bitter feud between two families.

The feud is dominated by confrontations between rival drums that impact dramatically, often disastrously on members and followers of the families.

According to Alves, King of Drums seeks to locate the role of drumming in the African culture, emphasising its strong links to African folklore and its real life role on the African Diaspora.

Alves further explains that King of Drums is about two rival families’ quest, to control the most powerful ancient medium of communication “drums”.

Drums were also an integral part of worship, therefore drums can put you on a high, drums can heal, drums can hurt and drums can kill depending on who is in control, Alves said.

The story becomes more complicated when two members of the rival families become intimately involved and get married.
