Police suffered mixed fortunes yesterday as action in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Busta 20/20 2nd division cricket continued in the city.
Police lost to GCC after beating Diplomats at Eve Leary while Carl Rambarose made an unbeaten 68 for Transport Sports Club (TSC) to register the only half-century in the round.
In the morning game at Police, Diplomats fell for 40 as teenage leg-spinner Parnell London took 3-5 from 4 overs while left-arm spinner Latchman Persaud (2-9 from 4) and off-spinner Linden Wilson (2-5 from 1.1) supported for the Cops who raced to 41-1 in 4.5 overs. Troy Benn hit an unbeaten 20 while Shameer Fazal made 16.
In the afternoon encounter, Police fell for 117 in 20 overs with Benn (27), Cecil Adams (27*) and Andre Stoll (25) leading the fight with the bat as Raphael Singh captured 3-8 from 2.5 overs.
GCC replied with 118-4 from 19.1 overs as Winston Forrester (38) and Parmanand Ramkissoon (22) led the way for the Bourda boys as Skipper Fitzroy Culley took 2-20 from 20 overs for the Lawmen.
At Malteenoes, GDF beat 3rd Class by 17 runs in the morning game before the hosts defeated Ace Warriors by 8 wickets in the afternoon match.
The Soldiers made 134-9 off 20 overs with Terry Fraser (32), Farad Utman (30) and Travis Gilbert (24) leading the way as Alvin Castello (3-18), Anthony Bernard (2-21) and Vickram Ramsundar (2-24) doing the damage with the ball for 3rd Class who fell for 117 in 19.3 overs.
Ramsundar made 34 as Paul Castello (2-24) and Marlon Young (2-14) bowled well for the winners.
In the afternoon game, Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) dismissed Ace Warriors for 65 in 16.4 overs despite 22 from Levar Douglas and 13 from Abzal Gafoor after the team’s leading batsman Melroy Stephenson was run out for 2 at 5-1.
The off-spin pair of Shaquille Williams (3-5 from 3 overs) and Daniel Gravesande (2-4 from 4 overs) along with Neil Barry Junior (2-24) and Carlos LaRose (2-10) kept the shackles on the batsmen.
Williams, this year’s Guyana under-15 Skipper, completed a good all-round match by finishing unbeaten on 23 while Randy Lindore made 25 not out.
And Transport Sports Club (TSC) got past new team Vikings Sports Club by 7 wickets after reaching 124-3 in 17.5 in reply to Vikings’ 124 all out in 19.4.
Ryan Hemraj made 37 and Trevor Henry 34 for Vikings as Azeem Aziz took 4-18 and Imtiaz Pooran 2-4 did the damage for the Thomas Lands side.
Rambarose, a Demerara under-19 player, played an array of shot in his unbeaten 68 while Rawle Enmore made 25 for TSC. Daniel Keer-Downes took 2-22 in a losing effort.
The competition continues today with GCC playing Diplomats from 10:00hrs at Bourda and DCC from 13:30hrs at GDF.
