When Trinidad and Tobago humbled Guyana by 81 runs in the Regional One Day Final at the Providence Stadium last ‘Thursday, triumphant Captain Daren Ganga not only became the most successful Regional one day Captain, surpassing compatriot Brian Lara and Guyanese Carl Hooper who had shared with him three Regional one day titles, but the flamboyant Trinidad skipper went a step further.
The man from Carnival country is now the only captain to win three consecutive finals.
Ganga marshaled his troops to consecutive championships in 2007 defeating the Windward Islands in St Vincent 2007, in 2008 defeating Barbados at Providence and 2009 trashing Guyana also at Providence.
Compatriot Brian Lara won back to back championships. In 1995 shared with Guyana and 1996 defeating Guyana in the finals at Bourda. Antiguan Richie Richardson was at the helm when the Leewards won back to back titles in 1994, defeating Barbados at the Kensington Oval and in 1995 February, defeating the same opponents, this time at the Antigua Recreational ground in St. Johns.
The million dollar question now being asked is why the region most successful captain has being overlooked by the WI selectors.
