UNICEF, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has supplied 42,000 pairs of Crocs (shoes) to the school systems in which the hinterland and river schools in Region Two, Three, Four, Five, Six and Ten will be benefiting.
This initiative is linked to ongoing sustainable school water; Sanitation and Hygiene (wash) programme initiatives.
Crocs shoes were distributed to ensure comfort and safety resulting in various positive changes in the lives of children in hinterland and riverain communities, specifically schools attendances, while the shoes stop the feet from getting cut, prevent chiggoes and worms and help feet grow properly.
The donation was made at the Ministry of Education , 26 Brickdam, on Thursday.
Education Minister, Shaik Baksh, expressed appreciation for the tangible donation from UNICEF and on behalf of the Government; however, this will benefit the children over the various hinterland schools.
According to the UNICEF representative, Suleiman Braiomoh, this is to help children from the hinterlands to protect their feet and promote healthy behaviour as many diseases can be contracted by walking barefoot “Crocs” are designed for overall sanitation and protection of the feet.
