Alvin Johnson was elected to the seat of Chairman when the Parika Community Playground Management Committee held a special General Meeting on Monday October 26 last. The forum, held at the Travelers Lodge, Parika was convened in response to a call by residents for inclusiveness and a broad-based management committee to manage the facility.
The function attracted representation from a wide cross section of stake-holders including residents, members of the business community, the Parika-Salem School Sports Clubs and those from the Mora-Parika Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC). The new executive is a reflection of equitable representation where all stakeholders contributed to a revamped constitution draft.
Returning Officer and Chairman of the Mora-Parika NDC, Krishna Samlall congratulated the incoming committee while urging them to commit themselves to the development of sport and culture in the area.
In response, Chairman of the committee, Mr. Alvin Johnson expressed gratitude for the confidence shown in him while urging the stakeholders to abandon petty differences while working towards a common goal. He said one of the primary goals should be the development of sport in the community.
Mr. Johnson revealed that high on the developmental agenda is the resurfacing and fencing of the ground. He also signaled an intention to complete infrastructural works on the lone building on the ground as well as the construction of an all-weather asphalt track.
Meanwhile, several of the newly installed executives expressed gratitude to those that voted for them while pledging their unstinted commitment to the development of sport in the area.
