Captain of the national team Sabola Gray speaking with Kaieteur Sport informed that she is extremely happy and satisfied with the team’s preparations as they seek to successfully defend their title at the upcoming North American & Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) Championships on November 14-15 in Mexico.
Gray, returning at the helm, disclosed that the team is an experienced one made up of most of the players who participated in the championships last year, except for two members Abigail Tinnis and Anneisa DeAbreu.
“Tinnis has been recalled after missing out on last year’s team, but she has Sevens experience, while De Abreu is the only player without an international call-up prior to her present selection,” Gray related.
The Captain exuded confidence that Guyana could retain the title, adding that the team has worked really hard in an effort to make the citizens of this country proud.
Guyana’s opening match according to Gray is against Jamaica, a team she said could provide a stern test for them.
She also mentioned Mexico as another one of their opponents, but expressed a lack of knowledge of their ability.
“We are going as a team and will work as a team and hopefully it will be the main ingredients needed to ensure that we successfully defend our title,” Gray mentioned.
