– Would like to see all categories in the C/bean Series
By Rawle Welch
Cognizant of the need to increase his speed in the highly subscribed and competitive Group 2A Class, young driver Raymond Ally in an interview with Kaieteur Sport last Thursday evening warned his rivals that he will be much faster and more efficient come tomorrow.
Ally, who will be competing at the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club final Meeting of the year, said that with the division title up for grabs, his objective is to go all out and stake a claim on the title, something he dearly needs to boost his confidence in the sport.
A consistent performer since entering the sport in 2005 as a Rookie, the local speedster has since been elevated to the 2A category due to a string of outstanding performances in his early years and has earned the respect of many of his rivals in the new division.
He informed that he has rebuilt the engine after experiencing problems with it and had the opportunity to get some seat time and according to him everything went well.
“I’m hoping that it could be very competitive come tomorrow and it seems to be much quicker now,” he stated.
He added that he is quite certain that it is much faster in the straightaway and is really excited about his prospects tomorrow. Forced to miss the last Meeting due to engine problems, Ally disclosed that he was right up in contention for the title, but has since been overtaken by a couple of drivers including Chet Singh and Jad Rahaman.
“I’m banking on a solid performance which could see me back in the fray fighting for the division title.” He reckoned that this Meeting will be the decisive factor to determine who wins that coveted crown.
Asked whether he intends to increase modification to move up to the Group 2B category, he responded by saying that until he clearly begin to dominate the Class, he is harbouring no thought of moving up, but rather is more inclined to stay and battle in his present category.
He pointed out that guys such as Rahaman, Singh and Syed Hassan are the ones to watch, while the Barbados drivers are of unknown quality to him.
“Singh is the defending champion and I’ve read how prepared he is to defend his title so it will be an interesting battle tomorrow and I’m one of those guys taking aim at snatching the title from him,” Ally said. “He is firmly set in my sights even though I know it will not be an easy task,” the University of Guyana student, who is currently pursuing a Degree in Business Management, told this newspaper.
He mentioned his desire to see the Caribbean Series evolve to accommodate all the other categories, citing its significance to advance the sport. “We too in the smaller categories would like to be crowned best in the Caribbean and to be able to have that opportunity to showcase our talent to racing fans in the Region,” Ally remarked.
He extended thanks to his sponsors Gas & Go Friendship GuyOil, Friendship machine Shop, Castrol GuyOil and members of his team, especially Quang and Neezam Ali for their dedication and commitment.
