Andrew Gomes who reportedly confessed to killing his father Stanislaus Gomes was remanded yesterday after his file finally entered the court.
Yesterday, he made yet another court appearance, this time before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to be recharged for the murder of his father.
Andrew Gomes, 25, of Waiakabra Village on the Linden/ Soesdyke Highway, was not required to plead to the indictable offence.
It is alleged that on November 27, 2008 Andrew Gomes murdered his father Stanislaus Gomes with a cutlass.
Police prosecutor Kevin London stated that a case was established against the defendant and as such the defendant was recharged for the offence of murder. He added that the prosecution is ready and willing to vigorously prosecute the case. Gomes who was unrepresented in court said nothing.
He is expected to return to court on November 30.
In the late morning of November 27, 2008, Andrew Gomes ended the life of his father, 57-year-old Stanislaus Gomes, a murder that rocked the village of Waiakabra, on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway. After several court appearances, Andrew Gomes was made to walk as a free man last Wednesday since the police failed to present the necessary file with the confession and other statements to the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
Kaieteur News understands that the younger Gomes was a drug addict, and that his addiction was ongoing for “quite some time.” He had made threats to his father’s life on several occasions prior to the murder.
On the day in question after committing the crime, Andrew Gomes had run to a neighbour’s home some two miles away from the scene of the crime, with the bloody cutlass used in the murder. He was picked up within an hour of committing the capital crime by ranks of the Timehri Police Station, and was taken away without putting up any form of resistance.
Stanislaus Gomes and his son, his only child, lived on a large plot of land, an average ten minutes drive from the highway, through a number of trails.
