Ogle Masjid thrashed Aurora Masjid by a massive 102- run margin last Sunday to win the Guyana Softball League (GSL) Inter- Jamaat nationwide 10- over softball final at the Ogle Community Centre ground, East Coast Demerara.
The hosts batted first and galloped to a formidable 180- 7 from the allotment of 10 overs while the Essequibians, in reply, were skittled out for 78 in the final over. Wasim Haslim cracked an entertaining 45, laced with five sixes and three fours, while Mohamed Asif and skipper Nadir Baksh weighed in with 37and 33 respectively; Dindyal Lakhan supported with 22.
When the visitors batted, only Azim Khan with 23 as Dindyal, Baksh and Haslim picked up two wickets each to help formalize the victory.
Haslim was later named man- of- the- match and collected a trophy, compliments of West Indian Sports Complex. The winning team and the runners – up received trophies, while third- place winner was Leonora Masjid; they all took home trophies for their effort, thanks to the Sports Complex.
Proprietor of West Indian Sports Complex, Feroze Khan, at the presentation ceremony, congratulated the winners, and thanked the softball league for running off the competition successfully.
He also expressed his gratitude to the eight Masjid teams who qualified for the quarter-finals by winning their respective zones from across the country for their participation.
