The Director of the Child Protection Agency, Ann Greene, is saddened at the recent act of torture of the 14-year-old boy at the Leonora Police Station by the Guyana Police Force.
According to Ms. Greene, this is a horrendous, frightening and sickening act that must never be allowed to ever happen again.
This agency relies on the police to assist in child protection and this act speaks something else of the persons in charge, she said.
The Agency is in the process of making contact with the boy’s parents to meet with them and discuss what had transpired.
The agency will also seek to examine the well being of the boy.
The persons that are responsible for this atrocious act that has been meted to the boy should be brought to justice, said Ms. Greene.
In what may be one of the worst cases of police brutality, ranks from the Leonora Police Station have been accused of setting a 14-year-old boy’s genitals alight while questioning him about the murder of former Region Three Vice Chairman, Ramnauth Bisram.
The boy was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Cooperation (GPHC) Burns Unit on Saturday, after spending three days in the lockups with severe burns to his genitals, midriff and thighs.
The boy’s parents said that while they are being allowed to visit him, security officials at the GPHC have informed them that no other visitors will be allowed.
