The issue of the tape allegedly involving presidential liaison and press officer Kwame McCoy soliciting sexual favours from a 15-year-old boy seems to have gone cold. Police Commissioner Henry Greene recently said that the file is with the DPP.
However, yesterday the Director of Public Prosecutions, Shalimar Ali-Hack, said that she has advised that more investigations be done by the police.
“I sent that Kwame Mc Coy file back to the police more than three weeks ago with recommendations for further investigations to be done regarding the matter allegedly involving the official and the 15-year old.
The 15-year-old identifies himself as Julius on the tape which came to light several weeks ago hails from Linden.
Mrs Ali-Hack said that the file on the matter was sent to her by the police on October 9, last. After a review, it was returned to the police on the same date.
She said that the file had no statement from the complainant in relation to any tape and who did a taping. She said that she has advised that the police do further investigations before a pronouncement could be made.
Noting that it is the police who must do the investigations before the files are sent to her for a pronouncement, she cited the law of evidence.
This law deals with taped evidence. The tape-recording has to be in its original recorded state.
The law also deals with who taped it, and who kept it in its original form to prove the authenticity of the content and that it was not tampered with.
She said that since the file is with the police, the investigations have to be completed before that file is brought back to her office for a decision on the way forward.
