The Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport (MCYS) Mixed Circle Tennis Team made light work of President’s Youth Award Republic of Guyana (PYARG) in the main event of the PYARG 11th Anniversary Celebration Day of Sport on Sunday, at the Carifesta Sports Complex.
MCYS won the toss and invited PYARG to the circle first in the 80 deliveries match and they made 148-4, with Permanent Secretary MCYS Alfred King top scoring with 42 which included 6 x6s, Ashton Todd 10.
MCYS in reply reached their target off 29 deliveries, losing just 3 wickets in the process with Player of the Match Anson Barrington, hitting an unbeaten 75 which contained 8x6s, while Edward Cobenna 52, 6x6s, Paulette Heywood 25 & Nicola David 20 each had valuable contributions.
Annett Lawrence was adjudged the best bowler, delivering 20 deliveries for just 22 runs.
The MCYS team received the winners trophy sponsored by the PS, while PYARG received the runners-up trophy sponsored by MCYS HIV/AIDS Programme.
Players from the winning team also received medals, compliments of AL Sport & Tour Promotions.
In other results, Region One defeated Region Ten 2-1 in a Mixed Team Football Competition.
In Softball Cricket, Region Three beat Region Two by14 runs.
Taking first strike, Region Three made 100-5 and Region Two in reply were restricted to 86-5.
In Volleyball, Region One defeated both Regions 7 &10 to take the winners trophy.
Meanwhile, the MCYS All Female Team is scheduled to be in action this weekend against Victory Chaser (VC) Circle Tennis Club of Region 3 West Bank Demerara.
The first time the two teams meet in October, VC won both games at home.
The return match is scheduled for the Carifesta Sports Complex this Saturday.
