Dear Editor,
I protest the torture of my fellow citizens and in particular of this 14-year-old boy by brutes and bullies who masquerade as police.
I protest this barbaric Government that allows torture to be done in my name by offering rewards to solve crimes. This only encourages these brutes to torture detainees to elicit confessions.
I protest that these ‘rogue’ policemen have not been named. Why are they being protected? They are criminals and the police were never shy of publishing names of persons who they believed fitted that description.
I protest that the parents, lawyers and the media were denied access to this child in the lock-ups for four days. Poor child, he must have been terrified beyond words.
As never before the police, the army and CANU are in desperate need of reform and training and to think this Government gave up millions of dollars on the pretext of Guyana’s sovereignty.
Just who are they trying to fool? It boggles the mind and this foolishness has to stop.
