The two Guyana Power and Light Inc. employees who allegedly forged documents and stole from the company made their court appearances yesterday.
Rupert Lord Backer, of Mahaica, and Jamal Forde, 22, of Lodge housing Scheme were both granted bail by Acting Chief Magistrates Melissa Robertson
They are facing five counts of larceny by clerk/ servant and five counts of forgery. The charges were jointly read to them.
It is alleged that between October 20 and October 29, last, at GPL the two committed the crimes. They are accused of stealing 118 rolls of copper wire cable. They both pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The number one accused, Rupert Lord Backer, who is still employed at GPL as a Customer Service Clerk, was represented by attorney at law Patrice Henry who said that his client has been co-operating with the police force in every way possible.
Meanwhile the second accused, Jamal Forde, who also is still employed at GPL as a Procurement Clerk was represented by attorney at law Nigel Hughes in court. Hughes too stated that his client has co-operated with the police in their investigation.
Attorney at law Henry added that 64 rolls of the wire was recovered at Prem’s Electrical Store on Alexander Street and are all lodged at the station.
Police prosecutor Kevin London made no attempt to prevent application for bail to be refused to the two accused and confirmed that 64 rolls of the wire were recovered.
The magistrate then granted the two accused $400,000 bail each and are expected to return to court on December 7.
