Beat Region 9 1-nil to remain unbeaten
In sweltering heat at the Lethem Community Centre ground, the dominant Georgetown lasses beat Region Nine 1-nil yesterday afternoon to take the inaugural Women’s National Football League title.
Playing skillful football on the large and well kept ground, a huge crowd watched as Shamaine Ward sealed the issue in the 63rd minute when a ball bounced off of her boot to go over the head of the advancing custodian who miss-judged the bounce of the ball.
Despite spirited defence, the home team were never allowed to score the equalizer, as the City girls registered their fifth consecutive win to move to an assailable 15 points.
Georgetown will be crowned the first champions regardless of the result of the match this Sunday at the Lethem ground between Region 9 and Bartica.
The Georgetown team was expected to being their trip back to the city at 04:00hrs this morning.
