Floyd Carmichael enjoyed his best tournament to date and despite dropping the penultimate game to Moen Gafoor, rebounded to cart off the spoils when the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) staged the GASP Open Championships in the pavilion of the Bourda Cricket Club, yesterday morning.
Carmichael compiled 5 points and a positive spread of 761 to relegate Moen Gafoor (5 points and a positive spread of 661) to second place, while Carlton Murray survived a third round loss to Carmichael and a final game, 18 spread, upset from Anand Mohabir to seal off the final podium spot with 4 points and a positive spread of 367.
Carmichael’s other victims were Ulric Harris (202), Ovid Williams (117), Carlton Murray (146), Maurice Munroe (96) and Leon Belony (239). Apart from Carmichael, Gafoor secured victories over funds to facilitate National Champion Abigail McDonald’s trip to Malaysia to participate in the World Scrabble Tournament, has been pushed back by one week.
The drawing is now scheduled for Saturday November 14 in front of the Courts Main Street building. Tickets are $100 each and can be had from any member of GASP. Lots of attractive prizes are on offer.
