In response to Mona Chaitram’s critique of my letter (27/10/09) .First of all, I want to ask Ms. Chaitram when last she visited Guyana and how long she spent?
There is no doubt in my mind that she would have been ‘blacked out’ no sooner had she settled down unless she had a generator.
I want to let Ms. Chaitram know that it doesn’t matter to me who is governing Guyana. I will always remain patriotic to my country.
But whether it’s black-market, blackout, soliciting sex from little boys, torturing teenagers or nepotism I am compelled to say something about it.
Anyone with a conscience or who has travelled out of Guyana would realise that we are way behind in a civilised world.
Having proper infrastructure should be priority for any government so if Guyana is well developed in your eyes, Ms. Chaitram, then that’s how it should be. But the truth is we still have a long way to go.
I am sure if you had visited Zimbabwe you would have seen high rise buildings but the people are still suffering there just as the poor in Guyana, whether black or Indian.
Finally, I would like to let Ms. Chaitram know that I never criticised Guyana because the PPP governs, I was merely pointing out a social ill that continues to persist in our society even as bold headlines suggest that blackout would be a thing of the past.
