Berbician will have an opportunity today for the first time to witness and be a part of Annual Police Gymkhana which is expected to feature a number of spectacular and breathtaking events.
The Guyana police Fore Gymkhana is a regular feature on the force calendar of activities, but the event was only held in Georgetown. This year the force as part of their community enhancing strategy has decided to take the activity to various parts of the country. The Berbice leg of the event is slated for the Rose Hall Community Centre ground in East Canje and will feature the various departments of the Guyana Police Force in their many stunts and display.
There will be performances by the Police Mounted Branch as they take the horses through various drills, including jumping through fire and the musical Chairs. The Police Canine Branch with their tracker dogs will also be a part of the day’s activities as they do various displays. The Majorettes groups will also be displaying various moves and skills. The various Police motorbike divisions including traffic will also be a part of the day’s activities. Foot drill displays, late for work, bounty hunting and the police military band will all show off their skills, in what they do best. Bikers from various bikers clubs and grass track riders will also be apart of the days proceedings.
Coordinator of the B division aspect of the Country wide Gymkhana Superintendent Dereck Young said the aim of these kinds of activities is to help the community see the lighter side of policing. ‘Policing is more that what you actually see, and what will be on display is what you do not see’ the superintendent said.
Commissioner of Police Henry Greene and the various commander and heads of departments are all expected to be in attendance. The action starts at 10:00 hrs.
