In an effort to foster a better relationship between law enforcement agencies and the community in which they operate, the police in B division recently hosted a four team one day domino extravaganza at the Central Police Station Mess Hall.
Civilians domino team known as the Unknowns from East Canje took liberty of the opportunity granted to come out on top with 83 games followed by Police with 77, the Army third with 72 games while the Neighbourhood Police Group failed to get their act together, faltering badly to end in the cellar with 61 games.
At the end of the competition three players tied with a top core of 16 games each. They were Olive Tucker of Neighbourhood Police Group; Lieutenant L.T. Henry of the Army and policeman Rawle Ramoutar. The three were then involved in a four game play off which saw Tucker emerging the champion.
At the presentation ceremony which followed after, the winning civilian team was presented with their trophy by commander of police B division Assistant Commissioner George Alexander Vyphuis. The police team received their silverware compliments of Superintendent Dereck Younge while the most outstanding player Tucker was presented with her accolade by Detective Superintendent and B division crime chief Marlon Chapman.
Coordinator of the event Station sergeant Jairam Ramlakhan told Kaieteur News that the competition is the start of a series of events being held to enhance the relationship between the military, paramilitary and the community in which they operate. He said that more activities are planned and they will make the occurrence a regular affair.
Assistant Commissioner Vyphuis declared the activity open and played the first card. At the presentation ceremony he expressed his appreciation and support for the activity, citing that it is part of some new initiatives that the police will adopt for the future.
