The man who allegedly shot 17-year-old Mark Fernandes and Cheryl Marks at Riverview, Ruimveldt on Sunday last has promised to turn himself in next week.
The suspect, identified as ‘Ulric’ told Kaieteur News yesterday during a brief telephone conversation that he has already contacted his attorney with a view of surrendering to the police next Monday.
Kaieteur News had obtained the suspect’s mobile phone number from Cheryl Marks, the young woman at the centre of the altercation.
During the interview, ‘Ulric’ alleged that Mark Fernandes was the one who had the handgun and was attempting to shoot him. He claimed that Fernandes was shot during a scuffle.
But according to police reports, Fernandes and Marks were in Riverview on Sunday night when ‘Ulric’ walked up to them.
It is alleged that ‘Ulric’ accused Fernandes of having a relationship with his girlfriend and then struck Fernandes on his head. The suspect reportedly then drew a handgun and shot Fernandes in the chest. Marks was shot in the upper thigh. They were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where Fernandes was admitted. Marks was treated and discharged.
