– GFF orders Organisers to fulfil security requirements
Following the stabbing incident that marred the match between Pele and Riddim Squad that also resulted in the tournament’s temporary suspension, Organisers of the 3rd Annual NaMILCo Football Festival are assuring fans that all the necessary security arrangements have been put in place for a safe resumption today, at the Tucville ground.
According to a source close to Fruta Conquerors, the club which has organised the Festival, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), the local governing body of the sport has mandated that they fulfil all the requirements to ensure spectators safety for a smooth and trouble free recommencement of the tournament.
The incident saw three persons being injured following an attack by a fan resulting in them being hospitalised.
The recent news pertaining to the incident is that the GFF has instituted a life ban on the perpetrator from attending any tournament sanctioned by them, while Fruta Conquerors have imposed a similar life ban that also includes being “persona non grata” at the club’s facility.
Among the new arrangements are: spectators will not be allowed to encroach onto the field of play nor will they be permitted to be in close proximity of the respective teams benches since security personnel will be assigned to each team.
The club’s management wishes to apologise to the many fans that turned up to witness the games and extended heartfelt sympathy to those injured and hope that they recover speedily.
Meanwhile, three matches are on today at the Tucville venue, starting from 16:00 hrs.
In the opening encounter, Pele and Riddim Squad will collide in a rematch and that will be followed by Santos versus Top XX from 18:00hrs and the feature clash is between GDF and Buxton United from 20:00 hrs.
