– Suspects ‘missing’ from police custody – relatives
A close male friend of former Region Three Vice Chairman Ramnauth Bisram has reportedly confessed to helping to orchestrate Bisram’s murder after luring the victim to his door.
The Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara resident is among four people who are in custody and are likely to be charged shortly for murdering 55-year-old Bisram, who was stabbed some 30 times by his killers.
Police sources said that the friend, who was a frequent visitor to Bisram’s home, told investigators that Bisram had opened his door after he, the friend, had rapped.
It is alleged that as soon as the door was open, the friend and his accomplices, with robbery as their motive, entered the house and pounced on their victim, stabbing him several times.
Two of the suspects were reportedly arrested on Wednesday.
Police have also detained Bisram’s father-in-law and his brother-in-law, who were the first persons to have seen his body.
While a police official had stated that the two men were released, Kaieteur News confirmed that the father and son are still in custody.
A female relative of the men told Kaieteur News that her brother, Gobin Ramustapha, who is about 50, is being detained at the Wales Police Station.
However, the woman said that police ranks have not told her where her father, 72-year-old Mohamed Ramustapha, is being held.
The relative said she had checked at the Wales, La Grange and Vreed-en-Hoop Police Stations to no avail. According to the woman, her brother and father have been in custody since Monday.
Meanwhile, Kaieteur News understands that relatives of a third suspect are alleging that police have refused to tell them where he is being detained.
Bisram, of 11 Canal Number Two, North Section, was found lying in a pool of blood in a bedroom shortly after 16:00 hrs on Monday.
A relative who found the corpse said that a knife was lying near the body.
The man’s wife, Pamela, and his daughter, Nalini Sinj, arrived in the country the following day.
Both women expressed the view that the murder was carefully planned and that the killers were no ordinary robbers.
According to the man’s daughter, whoever killed her father made off with his briefcase, which contained a lot of important documents and a large amount of cash.
Bisram died as a result of shock and haemorrhage and his body bore some thirty stab wounds.
