– scouting also held in New York and Michigan
Over the past weekend, (October 24 & 25) female Guyanese footballers based in Toronto Canada commenced their Pre World Cup training sessions under the guidance of Assistant Coach Tony DeRosario with assistance from volunteer Coach Elvis Wong Yu.
The training sessions allowed Coach DeRosario first hand opportunity to assess some of the new talent in the Programme which started in June of this year. It also allowed the coaches to see new players, giving them the opportunity to meet and play with some of the returning players from the Turks & Caicos tournament where Guyana participated with a team comprising players from the Diaspora and local based.
Coach DeRosario is conducting the sessions, which saw players from Toronto and its close environs attending, on behalf of Technical Director Mark Rodrigues who was travelling to the states of New York and Michigan on this weekend scouting additional talent for the Program’s future growth.
Putting Guyana’s Women’s football on the World map is paramount in Technical Director Rodrigues’ mind. His vision is to showcase the amazing football talents of Guyanese women by searching the globe for players of Guyanese descent to compete in next year’s Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
He is aiming to combine players of the Diaspora with those based locally who can display the ability to compete at this level. This philosophy is no different than any other country’s Programmes.
The female youth of Guyana will be the ultimate beneficiaries of this programme since any success enjoyed will empower more females to get involved in playing ‘The Beautiful Game” while providing role models to emulate.
The Guyana Football Federation under whose auspices the entire programme is being conducted has already commenced preparations for local based players with the running off of the Female Inter Association tournament which is being run alongside the GFF Super League competition, sponsored by FIFA under the Win in CONCACAF with CONCACAF initiative.
