Home Affairs Minister, Clement Rohee, adopted the Social Sciences methodology of logical deduction, applied it to the Hamid family and in the process exposed the Guyana Government in a way that it cannot escape.
Whether Mr. Rohee will be disciplined secretly or be publicly dismissed should be of interest. Let’s see how Mr. Rohee’s social sciences debating got him into trouble.
There is a business family on Regent Street that has suffered four fires at their stores in two years. One in Charlestown three doors north of Kaieteur News that was immediately rebuilt; one last year on Regent Street that was immediately built back; two weeks ago, another fire in the family on Regent Street; then last week, the fourth one
Speaking to the media, Mr. Rohee opined that the pattern (my word) of four fires in such a short time-span in one family draw suspicion. And therefore needs to be studied. What Minister Rohee did was to adopt the methodology of logical deduction.
You cannot be removed from suspicion when on four occasions, you were found in houses where cocaine was found on the owners. You cannot be removed from suspicion when four times you explained to the police that people’s fancy dogs just strayed into your yard and you didn’t bring them there.
Let us ask Mr. Rohee to apply logical deduction to the Guyana Government’s involvement in extra-judicial activities involving violent drug traffickers.
One- No large scale-drug trafficker has been brought before the courts of Guyana. There have been “millions” of couriers caught plus “trillions” of small marijuana traffickers but not one big cocaine fish.
Douglas, Morgan, and Khan were wanted by the US authorities. Dataram is wanted by the US, not the Guyanese police. Major Clark was arrested in the US. Logical deduction would tell us, then, that in Guyana large players in the cocaine trade have some kind of influence that runs right up to the corridors of power.
Mr. Rohee finds time to echo a negative sentiment about the Hamid family but insists to the world that he would not comment on the accusations against Dr. Leslie Ramsammy
Two- President Jagdeo disclosed that he did not know of any activities of Roger Khan in relation to Buxton and drug trafficking. Yet this same President announced that he had intelligence data on an army official, Major Clark that he was involved with the Buxton-based gunmen while the GDF was encamped in that village in an anti-crime project named Operation Tourniquet to target those very gunmen.
Here is Clark supposedly assisting the violent attackers held up in Buxton and the President knows about it but Roger Khan who was equally involved in an opposite direction in Buxton, confronting the people Clark was supposedly entangled with but Mr. Jagdeo never heard about Khan in this respect.
Note that Khan was found late one evening with sophisticated electronic stuff monitoring cell calls from Buxton. Logical deduction, the type Rohee used to assess the Hamid fires, would lead the analyst to reject the President’s assertion that he didn’t know about Khan’s projection into Buxton.
Three – A former Central Committee member of the PPP and someone who has long standing relations with many PPP leaders told me six weeks ago that he went into Nathoo’s Bar on Pike Street Kitty and saw a current, top PPP leader drowning his sorrows in liquor. In a conversation between the two, the current top boy yelled out that Roger Khan is a Guyanese hero.
Many East Indian supporters are saying this from Corentyne to Queens in New York. What is it they know that President Jagdeo and Mr. Rohee do not?
If the leader that was imbibing at Nathoo knew that Khan fought the gunmen in Buxton, and if Guyanese living as far away as Queens in New York and who are blind loyalists of the PPP know that too, how come Mr. Jagdeo and his Cabinet do not?
Wouldn’t logical deduction lead us to question how straightforward the Cabinet is with the people of Guyana?
Four- Finally, can Mr. Rohee tell us if he thinks Dr Leslie Ramsammy is guilty of association with Roger Khan. Four persons have made statements that have linked Dr Ramsammy with Khan.
Four is an important number. Remember four fires have Rohee wondering about a pattern. For sure, if the Government changes after the 2011 elections, there will have to be an inquiry into Khan’s activities in Buxton and his cocaine adventures in Guyana. The PPP Cabinet will not sleep at all if the PPP loses the next election.
