Ram and McRae Chartered Accountants, will be observing 25 years of service next July (2010) and has started celebrations early by announcing its inaugural award for the Best Annual Report and Financial Statements.
The award will be open to all Guyanese companies with published Annual Reports and Financial Statements, which would include public companies as well as insurance companies and state owned entities whose reports are available to judges.
The first set of Annual Reports and Accounts eligible for the award will be chosen from those ended during 2009.
To ensure impartiality, professionalism and exempt biasness or controversies, several organisations have been asked to nominate persons to form a Selection Committee.
The criteria for selection for the award will mimic those of similar awards in other countries, where the local accounting institutes play a pivotal role in the distribution such awards.
The Selection Committee is to meet to develop and finalize the criteria for the selection process for the Best Annual Report and Financial Statements.
Ram and McRae, however, will play no part in the development of the actual criteria. At present two awards given out by foreign countries have been obtained and the criteria used in their selection process has been passed onto the selection committee.
According to John Seeram, a nominee for the Selection Committee from the University of Guyana, one of the objectives behind the corporate award is to honor excellent financial reporting and presentations, on a wider scope of disclosure beyond minimum regulatory requirements.
The Selection Committee is so far made up by Paul Chan-a-Sue (a Chartered Accountant), Ramesh Seebarran (Chartered Accountant and alternate), Patrick Dial (Guyana Consumers Association), Roubinder Rambarran (The Private Sector Commission) and John Seeram (University of Guyana).
The winner of the inaugural Award will be announced at a dinner on July 31, 2010.
