Gavin Towler, 40, of 153 Middle Road La Penitence Georgetown was refused bail yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer the charge of murder.
It is alleged that between October 13 and October 19, at Middle Road La Penitence the accused murdered Samantha Marks.
Since the charge was indictable the accused was not required to plead.
Police Prosecutor Krishnadat Ramana stated that the deceased was the reputed wife of the accused and the mother of ten.
“They lived together for several years during which she was the victim of continuous physical abuse,” Ramana said.
He went on state that on the night of October 13 the accused placed a pillow over the face of the now dead woman and continuously beat her with his hand.
Since that incident the woman complained of feeling unwell. “On October 16 the woman visited the hospital and she was treated and sent home,” Ramana added. He stated that she returned to the hospital on October 19 and she succumbed.
Ramana claimed that according to the post mortem certificate the woman died of subdural hemorrhage, blood trauma and fractured hip.
The accused was arrested and he denied the allegations. He is expected to return court on November 20.
