A resident of Sheet Anchor Village was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo when he appeared before her at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on three counts of armed robbery.
Jeffrey Fraser, 38, a labourer and a father of two, is alleged to have on Friday last at Cumberland Village, East Canje, while in the company of others and armed with guns and cutlasses, robbed Indranie Jotis of one gold band.
On the same day, he also allegedly robbed Vishal Ramlochan of one $20,000 DVD player.
Fraser is also accused robbing Nicholas Saroopchan of one Black Berry cell phone valued $80,000.
Prosecutor Corporal Roberto Figueira opposed bail on the grounds of the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence.
He also stated that firearms were used during the robbery and that there is the likelihood that the accused will not return to attend court.
The matter has been transferred to the Reliance Magistrate’s Court for November 4.
