The second Republic Bank apprenticeship programme was launched yesterday at its head office at Promenade Court.
The batch of 23 apprentices will serve in various departments across the Bank’s branches in Guyana.
Addressing the youths, their parents and others present, Edwin Gooding, Managing Director; Republic Bank Guyana told the group that they should use the opportunity to garner life skills that will adequately prepare them to face the world of work.
He told the youths that they will be exposed to training that is similar to what obtains in the world of work. Gooding said that at the inception of the first programme the aim was and still is to bridge the gap between the end of the participants’ school life and the start of their professional career.
According to Gooding the programme which will last for seven months will be an exciting period of learning in an environment that will ensure self development, sharing of ideas and foster social growth.
He told the apprentices that they will see the reality of various aspects of the working world and the experience will serve to reinforce essential attributes to guarantee their understanding of what brings about success in the business world.
The success of the programme is not automatic; rather, it is dependent on their desire to ensure that it works, he told the apprentices.
It is towards this end that he urged the youths to become actively involved in the programme and be committed to its purpose if they are to maximise its benefits. He explained that all participants will receive a uniformed level of business related training despite department they are individually assigned.
Gooding explained that at the end of the seven-month programme, employment with Republic Bank is neither an objective nor a promise.
Notwithstanding that, he said that 13 apprentices from the previous batch have gained permanent employment with the institution and this should serve as a positive sign for the current batch. He urged them to enter the programme with a vision for their own success, and work towards achieving and exceeding their personal expectations.
The apprentices who make up this year’s intake are Karensa Alexander, Cameal Jeffery, Lorelli Todd, Tracci Kandhai, Renesah Gilford, Amanda Pereira, Nalini Bookay, Dinah Hanoman, Valena Ramdhine, Melissa Chin, Tiwari Ramratan, Nareefa Shaffee, Javon Dyal, Natalia Brasse, Steve Joseph, Tonisha D’Anjou, Leloutie Maniram,Avanelle Phyll, Dinesh Baldeo, Aleia Khan, Ruth Ann Yearwood, Gabriela Edwards and Gaitree Balkaran.
