Glenroy Duncan and Serena Grandison were adjudged champion boy and girl respectively when the Leonora Primary School held its graduation and awards ceremony 2009 in the school’s auditorium recently.
For their efforts, both students received trophies donated by the Guyana Softball League. Another student, Shanetta Timal was also awarded after she gained a place at the nation’s premiere secondary school, Queen’s College, at this year’s national grade six assessment examinations. Several other students who performed meritoriously also received trophies and certificates.
The administration of the Softball league subsequently promised that the award ceremony would be a yearly feature in order to encourage students to excel. Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Margaret McKend noted that the students of her institution have been performing credibly over the years in both sports and academics.
She charged the other students to emulate their colleagues by apply themselves more diligently to their work. Best graduating student, Abhimanyu Dev, the son of politician, Ravi Dev also spoke at the ceremony.
Regional Chairman Mr. Julius Faber delivered a short speech where he noted that education is extremely important in the developmental process. He further issued words of encouragement to perspective grandaunts while urging them to remain steadfast in their studies.
Former Headmaster, Mr. Gurdat Persaud, charged the students maintain their high level of aptitude and to continue to do the school proud. Officers of the Region 3 Education department of Education also delivered short speeches.
