A construction worker was granted $30,000 bail in court yesterday after he allegedly stabbed a man with a fork after the man’s cousin bought cocaine instead of marijuana.
Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson granted Malcolm Gobbing, 29, of 113 Pike Street Kitty when he appeared to answer the charge of unlawful wounding. It is alleged that on October 27, at Shell Road, Kitty, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Paul Smith so as to cause him actual bodily harm.
Gobbing who pleaded not guilty, “We were at a shop and I know Paul and his cousin Sandra. She ask me for $200 to buy ‘weed’”.
Gobbing stated that he denied her request but she insisted and he give her the money. “I saw her back and ask her for my money and Paul get up and say I flat, I asking back fuh $200 and I told him I want my money.”
Gobbing stated that a fight broke out then he went home. When he returned he was attacked in his effort to defend himself, Paul was injured.
Police prosecutor, Kevin London, who asked for substantial bail, told the court that both Smith and Gobbing are acquainted.
On the day in question Sandra Smith, Paul’s cousin ask the accused for $200 to buy marijuana and she left. On her return she told the accused that she bought cocaine instead and smoked it. The accused got angry and ‘abused’ Sandra. Paul offered to reimburse the accused his $200 but Gobbing refused it.
“Sandra and Paul went away and while on Shell Road the accused rode up with a bicycle and pulled out a fork and dealt Paul several stabs,”
Paul attempted to run but was caught by the accused and stabbed some more.
Paul reported the matter to the police, and then went to the hospital where he was treated and sent home. The accused was arrested and charged.
The accused is expected to return to court on December 2.
