A number of senior police officers of the Police B Division were recently sworn in as Justices of the Peace in a new move by the administration to give more power to the police in cases of emergency.
Among those taking the oath of office on Friday at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo were Assistant Commissioner and Commander of B Division, George Alexander Vyphius, Superintendent Dereck Younge, Detective Superintendent Marlon Chapman and Assistant Superintendent Steven Mansell.
Superintendent Linden Alves and Assist Supt. Fizal Karim Baksh were sworn in earlier.
Others still to receive their oath are Deputy Superintendent Ian Amsterdam and Assistant Superintendents Ivlaw Murray, Calvin Brutus, Leroy Albert, Gary McAlister, Linden Denny and Clayton Costello.
