The Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) of Berbice will be celebrating its 23rd Anniversary with a series of events starting with a church service this morning in the Ancient County. The club would subsequently stage a Peace Ride and a cycle meet that comprises 20 events at the Skeldon Estate Ground dubbed ‘Track Attack’ later today. Plans are also in train to conduct a feeding programme an orphanage this afternoon.
Activities are organized by coach of the Flying Ace Cycle Club, Randolph Roberts whose contribution to the cycling fraternity has been hailed as exceptional. Roberts has single handedly piloted the sport to a respectable position to the extent where several top cyclists now practice their trade out of the club. Roberts has been accredited for his efforts in producing a plethora of top riders from Berbice despite the many challenges he encountered. Some of the stalwarts that benefited from his expertise are Peter Millington whose riding feats earned him a place and an eventual gold medal in the just concluded Inter-Guiana Games in Suriname recently.
Roberts is also credited for the achievements of 16 years old, juvenile cycling champion, Neil Reece, who in 2007 won a gold medal, 2 bronze and a silver medal in a Trinidad meet.
Trevis Cipriani was also another leading junior rider who was guided by the coach. Roberts also nurtured Judah Klass.
Towards this end, the executives and other members of the FACC wish to acknowledge the sterling contributions of Roberts as the Club celebrates another important milestone.
They would be demonstrating their gratitude in a tangible way and Roberts has been identified for a special award.
Meanwhile one of the main sponsors of the activity is Mr. Faizal Ally, Managing Director of Ally and Sons General Store of Main Street and Cooper Lane, New Amsterdam. Several other corporate entities have emulated his chivalry and include Health Care Pharmacy of Pitt Street New Amsterdam, Furniture World, King Street New Amsterdam, House of Optics, Middle Street, Georgetown, Cops Security, Dharry Tulsie, Republic Bank, Corriverton, Spready’s Bakery, Nand Persaud Rice Mill, Baijnauth Sawmills, Crabwood Creek and Sherwin Lovell.
The executives of the FACC also wish to extend heartfelt gratitude to members of the Guyana Police Force, the media, parents of the cyclists and the many others that have supported them throughout the years.
