Four matches are scheduled to be played when the Essequibo zone of the National Softball Cricket tournament gets underway this morning.
The championship is organized by The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, in collaboration with the Guyana Softball Cricket League and sponsored by Ansa McAl, under the Carib Beer brand.
The Regional Executive Officer will bowl the first ball at around 9.30hrs to signal the start of the tournament which will attract some 166 teams countrywide. The overall winners as well as those that excel within the respective zones will receive cash incentives.
The fixtures are as follows: At the Reliance Ground starting at 09:30 hrs: Reliance United plays Cullen Sports Club while at 12:30hrs Reliance “B” takes on Affiance SC.
Over on the Essequibo Coast, United Brothers engages El Dorado Sports Club at the Suddie Ground form 09:30hrs, while at 12:30 hrs Die Hard XI (current countrywide champions) and Airy Hall Sports Club engage each other.
The organizers are encouraging the general public to come out in support of the players at the various venues.
