Police in Berbice are being kept busy in the wake of two more robberies on Friday night.
In the first robbery attack, two armed bandits attacked an elderly couple in their home at Letter Kenny, Corentyne around 21:00 hours.
And almost two hours later, three men relieved the occupants of a Canje home of jewellery and other articles.
According to a police statement, Mohamed Hakim called ‘Teacher’, 66, a rice miller of Section ‘B’ Letter Kenny, Corentyne, was in his home having dinner when the suspects entered through an opened door and demanded money and jewellery.
They tied up Hakim and his 61-year old wife, Silvia, and robbed them of $400,000 in local currency, US$250, jewellery, one VCR and a Laptop computer.
The men fled after ransacking the home and assaulting the occupants.
The victims later managed to free themselves and alerted the police. About 22:40hrs the same night, three men, two of whom were armed with handguns robbed Indranie Jotis, Vishal Ramlochan called Steve, and Nicholas Ramlochan, called Paul at their Nandram Street, Cumberland house.
The victims were under the house playing music when the suspects pounced on them demanding money and jewellery, discharging several rounds in the process.
They ordered the victims to lie on the ground and robbed them of a gold band, one DVD player and a cellular phone before escaping.
So far there have been no reported arrests.
