Two infants were left abandoned at the Georgetown Public Hospital this past week.
According to hospital sources, the mother is from a popular East Coast Village.
The source further explained that the two girls aged eight, and two months old respectively were left at the pediatric ward by their mother, who according to the police is an alcoholic.
This newspaper understands that the mother turned up yesterday morning after she was sober to uplift her children. The woman who was accompanied by her husband, who is also an alcoholic, was however denied access to the children.
The source said that the Hospital’s social worker quickly summoned the police.
Kaieteur news understands that this was not the first time that the couple had left their children unattended.
This newspaper contacted a senior official at the Child Care and Protection, and was told that both parents are likely to be charged for child endangerment.
“We are trying to send a strong message with regards to leaving children unattended. People need to understand that they can’t dump their children around,” the official said.
