Good Success SC, Sans Souci SC and Sans Souci Jaguars SC recorded victories as the Busta 40 overs cricket competition commenced in Wakenaam with three matches on Sunday.
At the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground in Good Success, the host defeated Maria’s Pleasure SC by 125 runs. Good Success batted first and scored 224 for 7 in a match which was reduced to 35 overs due to rain.
Opener Wazir Khan top scored with 66 (8×4, 1×6) while Imran Khan supported with 44 (3×4, 2×6), Shamsudeen Mohamed 29 and Nazeer Mohamed 18. Thakur Persaud grabbed 3 -46.
Maria’s Pleasure in reply were routed for 99 in 27.3 overs. Bernard Lewis was their leading run getter with 47 as Essequibo allrounder Nazeer Mohamed bagged 4-19, medium pacer Vijay Persaud 3-22 and Imran Khan 2-18 for the victors.
At Zeelandia, Sans Souci overcame the home team by 4 wickets. Zeelandia SC took first strike and made 122 all out in 25.3 overs.
Nandcoomar Boodram scored 22 and Ajay Ghansham 20 as Varouni Sasepaul and Vickram Ramnarine took three wickets a piece for Sans Souci who replied with 113-6 in 15.4 overs. Essequibo wicketkeeper batsman Wayne Osborne slammed 54, former national U-15 player Oyono Sampson 20 not out and Roopnarine Persaud 17.
Bowling for Zeelandia, Guyana U-15 vice captain, left arm spinner Ricardo Adams snared 3-19 and Darmin Pooran 2-19.
And at Noitgedacht, the host went down to Sans Souci Jaguars by 6 wickets. Noitgedacht SC took first turn at the crease and made 169 all out in 30.3 overs.
Essequibo U-15 player Ahmad Khan top scored with 33 while Deonarine Persaud supported with 30, Nigel Coggins 19 and Imran Hassan 18.
Essequibo U-15 player Zameer Zaman bagged 4-25, Moin Khan 2-19 and Gladwyn Henry 2-4.
The Jaguars in reply scored 170 – 4 in 27.2 overs. Tulsieram Ramadeen stroked 37, Charles Benjamin 32, Zaheer Mohamed 27 and Henry 18 not out as Ahmad Khan took 2-19 and national female cricketer Althea Newark 2-24 for Noitgedacht. The competition continues tomorrow.
