Members of the Christian community are gearing up for scintillating football action as the Holy Family Bible Study Youth Developers present the 2009, U-21 Churches Indoor Futsal tournament at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue starting at 18:00hrs tonight.
Four matches are scheduled to be played in the tournament dubbed “Playing for Jesus,” in what has been dubbed exciting indoor football.
There would also be an international flair to the proceedings as two teams from Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago are scheduled to participate.
Church officials revealed that the tournament is a part of the 2009 Sports Youth Convention, a forum designed to bring young people together in songs, prayers and social activity.
The objective is also to bring young people closer to God while engaging in activities that expose them to his teachings.
The person adjudged the Most Valuable Player receives a brand new 70CC motorcycle while a new lap top computer would be given to each of the players that score the most goals and the best goalkeeper. Several other prizes are also at stake.
Several groups have responded to the corporate call and include the National Sports Commission, Edward B Beharry and Company Ltd and Banks DIH Ltd, under the Malta brand.
The organizers are, however, in dire need of additional sponsorship and urge sponsors to pledge such assistance at telephone # 696-9212 (Quincy) or 612-9352 (Brother Dereck Young.
