– Nine in custody
Police on the Essequibo Coast have arrested nine people who were onboard a minibus in which a quantity of cocaine and marijuana was found.
Reports are that the police, during a routine road block, stopped the minibus on the Aurora Public Road and carried out a search after asking the passengers to disembark.
During the search, a rank noticed two plastic bags neatly wrapped and lying on the minibus floor.
Upon checking the packages, the rank discovered cocaine and marijuana. Since no one claimed ownership of the prohibited substances everyone onboard the minibus was taken into police custody.
A source close to the investigation said that the police are working on several possible leads that may eventually lead them to the owner of the drugs.
Up to press time those detained remained in custody.
