As police continue their investigation into the death of 39-year-old Samantha Marks, they have detained yet another suspect.
Acting on information they received on Wednesday evening, they went to the La Penitence Market at a ’drinking spot’ and picked up the suspect.
Norma Towler-Clarke, whose nephew had initially been taken into custody after a post mortem showed that the woman had sustained a broken rib and several fractures, said that she believes her nephew is innocent.
According to Clarke the man who was taken into custody on Wednesday night claimed that he was father of Marks’s two youngest children.
Marks died last Saturday, and leaves to mourn ten children, the youngest being less than two months old.
Kaieteur News understands that the woman was taken into the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC), and subsequently died. According to relatives of the woman’s reputed husband, Marks was crying out with pain for two days before she died at the GPHC.
According to the aunt of the second suspect, her nephew and the woman were living together for the past three years and he fathered two of her last children.
The dead woman was laid to rest on Tuesday afternoon.
