A hairdresser who was found with cocaine in her possession, as she was about to depart Guyana from the Cheddi Jagan Airport was remanded yesterday.
Tracy Allicock, 21, of 75 Regent Street was refused bail on Tuesday when she appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
On October 17, last, at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, the accused was found with 5.274Kg of cocaine in her possession.
Allicock, the mother of a two-year-old and self employed hairdresser, pleaded not guilty to the charge. To represent Allicock in court was Attorney At law Euclin Gomes, who appeared in association with Attorney at law Peter Hugh.
In his application for bail, Hugh told the court that his client had no previous convictions. He also asked that a cell phone, some quantity of US currency along with some other articles be returned to her.
However, according to police prosecutor, Kevin London, about 13:00hrs that day, the accused was departing Guyana on Liat flight 512 to St. Maarten.
She was about to board the flight when police acted on a tip off and searched her. They found the cocaine. She was arrested and charged”.
The magistrate refused to grant bail to the accused and transferred the matter to Providence Magistrate’s Court where she is expected to appear on October 23.
