The Sol Group commissioned the latest Shell Branded Service Station yesterday at Ramsburg, Providence, East Bank Demerara.
In September Sol acquired Shell’s aviation business in Antigua, Barbados, British Virgin Island (Tortola), St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Suriname. This transaction covers all aspects of Shell’s aviation fuel business including the distribution facilities and into-plane equipment.
According to Mr. Mahendra Sharma, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA), his agency has encountered many acts of fuel smuggling which undermines the legitimate dealers of fuel.
The Guyana Police Force, Guyana Defence Force, the Coast Guard, and GEA all worked together in contributing to the decrease in fuel smuggling. They were supported by advanced technology of fuel marking.
Sol supplies fuels, lubricant, bitumen and uses the Shell brand under license across its service stations network.
Currently there are completions of the rebranding of Shell Corriverton (the ex Esso Springlands site), Shell Linden, Shell Vreed- en-Hoop, and soon work would be started on the ex Esso McDoom and Regent Street sites which will be renamed Shell McDoom and Shell Regent Street respectively.
Dinesh Narine, who has been a fuel dealer for 22 years is in charge of the service station.
