Oct 22, 2009 Letters
Dear Editor,
This is becoming too much. As a frequent reader of Guyana dailies, I am disgusted to see some letters written by so many educated people, who continuously attack Mr. Kissoon on his almost four decades of alleged book theft.
They even negatively brought in his mother in the story. Come on people, let’s have some civility and respect here. Let us keep the family out, the same way President Obama kept the family of Sarah Palin out in the Presidential elections campaign.
These letters published by the dailies are vicious in nature and should have not been published. Let us go back to a civil form of journalism.
In the chronicle of October 21, issue, a writer by the name of Perdro Archancjo, made references to the fact that Mr. Kissoon allegedly stole books from:
A. Third World Books in Toronto (TWB)
B. Student Christian Monitor (SCM)
C. The National Library of Guyana
D. The University of Guyana Library.
I want to ask this writer if he were in Mr. Kissoon’s presence when these alleged thefts occurred and if so were he a recipient of any of the book(s) or did he have access to these books, knowing they were stolen.
Since he knew the books were stolen, did he ever report the alleged thefts to the police and if not, why he did not do so.
Was he an accomplice? Did he buy or was given and accepted, any of the stolen books, knowing they were stolen? Or were the alleged thefts hearsay stories?
Mr. Archancjo must know that hearsay stories are not creditable and acceptable in the courts of law. Did you exercise your civil responsibility as a person residing in the jurisidiction?
If he did have access or knowingly buy or accepted any of these stolen books, then he is equally culpable.
I want to make it quite clear that I am not defending Mr. Kissoon.
As a matter of fact, I do not agree with many of facts he quoted in his column, but there are numerous times when his facts are irrefutable. He has his own style.
Let us open the dailies and read current topics, which will educate the mind.
